India vs England Highlights, 1st Test Day 3: Kohli and Dinesh Karthik Key For India In Chase Of 194 vs England

Highlights India vs England: India ended Day 3 of the first Test with 110 on the board for the loss of 5 wickets, requiring another 84 runs to win.

Highlights, India vs England: Stuart Broad dismissed both the Indian openers in the second innings
With 194 runs required to win the first Test, India made a mess of their run-chase in their second inning ending day three with 110 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets. Skipper Virat Kohli (43 not-out) once again was the only bright star in the Indian inning as he stood solid at one end. India still required another 84 runs to win with two days of play still to go in the first Test. Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik (18 not out) was battling it out for India alongside Virat as the final session of the day ended. Chasing a tricky target against the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Sam Curran, India lost Murali Vijay for 6 runs. Shikhar Dhawan (13), too, followed him soon leaving India with 22-2 on the board. Although, KL Rahul (13) survived for 24 balls but never looked comfortable at the centre. Ajankya Rahane (2) found himself unlucky as he was dismissed after wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow took a sharp low catch. Ashwin came ahead of Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik but walked back after scoring 13 runs. For England, Stuart Broad in particular looked lethal dismissing both the Indian openers at the start. Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and James Anderson took one wicket each.

need 84 runs to win

Ishant Sharma clinched 5-wickets as India bundled out England for 180 in the second innings of the first Test at Edgbaston. India now have a target of 194, to win the first Test against the hosts, England. Ishant's 5-51 (his eighth 5-wicket haul in Tests) rattled England batting line-up as the middle order felt like a pack of cards in front of the lanky pacer. For England, Sam Curran, the 20-year-old all-rounder was the only highlight for the team as his 63-run knock took England out of trouble. Two-match-old Curran, slammed his maiden Test fifty helping England reach a respectable total of 180. The team was reduced to 86-6 at lunch but Sam Curran along with Adil Rashid stitched a brilliant 48-run partnership to save the day for England. England vice-captain Jos Buttler got out on the second ball after lunch but gritty partnership between Rashid and Curran frustrated India and skipper Virat Kohli. Umesh Yadav finally got the breakthrough dismissing Adil Rashid and later picked up Sam Curran to wrap up England's inning. (Highlights)
